Grace Fong was appointed as the Interim Director of the Center on the Family in August 2010.  Prior to this appointment, she taught for over 30 years in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences’ Family Resources program and coordinated its undergraduate internship program.  Her research and outreach interests include family management practices in limited-resource families and families with young children, and early childhood care and education. She is the recipient of the University of Hawai‘i 1998 Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching and the 1998 NACTA Award for Excellence in University Teaching.

• Hawai‘i Information System for Substance Abuse Prevention Project. August 1, 2011-July 31, 2012.  Hawai‘i State Department of Health-Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division. Oversees implementation of a web-based data collection, management, and reporting system as part of DOH-ADAD’s implementation of its Substance Abuse Prevention Infrastructure Work Plan.
• Learning to Grow Project. July 1, 2011-June 30, 2012.  Hawai‘i State Department of Human Services. Development, dissemination, and evaluation of educational outreach programs and resource materials for families receiving child care subsidies from the state, with the aim of improving the quality of care provided to children, ages birth to five.
• Quality Care Project. July 1, 2011-June 30, 2012.  Hawai‘i State Department of Human Services. Development of the infrastructure for and piloting of a Quality Improvement rating System for licensed center-based and home-based child care programs.
